In „Contra" verbindet Laura Murphy Zirkus, Stand-up und Live-art zu einem progressiven Solo-Kabarett voller Widersprüche. Die queere Performerin aus Bristol setzt sich über Grenzen der Genres hinweg und adressiert, in Teilen als Beitrag zur #metoo-Bewegung, die öffentliche Wahrnehmung von Geschlecht, Weiblichkeit und Queerness. In dieser interdisziplinären Verschmelzung von Theater, Luftakrobatik und verbalen Explosionen verbinden sich Intimität und Spektakel. „Contra“ ist eine radikal physische Performance, die auf deftige, witzige und vor allem aber kompromisslose Art und Weise persönliche, soziale und historische Projektionen auf weiblich gelesene Körper hinterfragt. Es wird im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes erforscht, wo diese Körper (gesellschaftlich) positioniert sind. Erwarten Sie Nacktszenen, Luftakrobatik und explizite Verweise auf mythische Reptilien und weibliche Sexualität.

Drawing from circus, stand-up and live art, “Contra” is a solo-cabaret of contradictions by Laura Murphy. The genre-defying queer performance maker from Bristol creates text-driven and dynamic physical work about things that she thinks need to be talked about. Her work is a cross-disciplinary fusion of theater, live art, aerial choreography, dance and verbal explosions that integrates intimacy and spectacle. Fierce, witty and uncompromising, this highly physical show examines personal, social and historical occupations of the female body and explores, literally, where such bodies are positioned and how we are meant to look at them. Created in part as a contribution to the #metoo movement, “Contra” is an intervention into perceptions of gender, femininity, queerness and consent. Expect scenes of nudity, aerial acrobatics and explicit references to mythical reptiles and female sexuality.
