In seinem letzten Film setzt der britische Filmemacher, Maler und Schriftsteller Derek Jarman seiner Krankheit, die ihn langsam erblinden lässt und die unweigerlich zum Tod führt, entschlossen die nach allen Seiten offene Leinwand entgegen – diese ist blau, und sonst nichts, außer der Tonspur – ein kraftvolles Gedicht aus Geräuschen, Texten und Musik. BLUE ist ohne Zweifel eine ästhetische, intellektuelle und emotionale Herausforderung. Ein Film, bei dem jede Person, die ihn schaut, selbst dafür verantwortlich ist, was sie sieht und was nicht. Und nein, das ist kein technischer Fehler, BLUE ist tatsächlich blau. Wenn man sich aber auf den Film einlässt, kann man mit etwas Besonderem belohnt werden – radikaler Freiheit in Kunstdeutung.

BLUE ist Teil des Begleitprogramms zur Ausstellung CINEMASHER von Judith Meister und Dean Wallflower. Wie auch HORSE MONEY, ist BLUE zugleich der Kontrastpunkt und in gewisser Weise die philosophische Grundlage für die Installation.

ENG: In his last film, the British filmmaker, painter and writer Derek Jarman resolutely confronts his illness, which is slowly making him blind and which inevitably leads to death, with the screen open on all sides - it is blue, and nothing else except the soundscape - a powerful poem of texts, music and sounds. BLUE is undoubtedly an aesthetic, intellectual and emotional challenge. A movie where each person watching it is responsible for what they see and what they don't see. And no, this is not a technical error, BLUE is actually blue. But if you allow yourself to get involved with the film, you can be rewarded with something special - radical freedom in the interpretation of art.

BLUE is part of the exhibition program CINEMASHER by Judith Meister and Dean Wallflower. Like HORSE MONEY, BLUE is both the point of contrast and, in a way, the philosophical basis for the installation. (English).
