September präsentiert POOL eine Auswahl faszinierender Tanzfilmproduktionen aus aller Welt und wird zu einer Plattform für Kreativschaffende aus Tanz, Film sowie der Fashion- und Werbeszene. Der Fokus des Festivals liegt auf Filmen, die aus dem engen Zusammenspiel filmischer und tänzerischer Bewegung eigenständige Filmchoreogaphien entstehen lassen. Aus einem offenen Wettbewerb mit 750 Einreichungen erstellte das Kuratorenteam drei Abendprogramme mit Tanzkurzfilmen, die den Facettenreichtum des Kunstformats wiederspiegeln. Am 12. September werden die PEARLS, die Gewinnerfilme des Festivals, präsentiert und ein Künstlerpreis – der PEARLS ARTIST PRIZE – vergeben. Neben zeitgenössischen Tanzfilmen zeigt das Festival im Rahmen des Sonderformats POOL Shine – New York Traces seit 2016 Filme, die im Austausch zwischen Künstler*innen des postmodernen Tanzes und der New Yorker Experimentalfilmszene seit 1960 entstanden sind. Wie auch in der vergangenen Edition stehen in diesem Jahr filmische Arbeiten der Künstlerin Meredith Monk im Mittelpunkt. Beeinflusst vom Aufkommen der Aids-Pandemie in den 80er Jahren greift der Film Book of Days (1988) die Thematik einer sich schnell ausbreitenden Krankheit auf und verweist auf sich daran anbindende rassistische und religiöse Konflikte – und ist damit aktueller denn je. Außerdem zeigt das Festival Meredith Monks Kurzfilm Turtle Dreams (1987), der in einer Kollaboration mit dem Filmemacher Robert Withers entstanden ist. POOL 20 ist eine Produktion von DOCK ART. Kindly provide the full name, valid phone number and an e-mail address of each person upon reservation, as part of the infection outbreak prevention measures. * * * * * The 14th edition of POOL will present from September 9 -12 a selection of fascinating dance film productions from all over the world, making the event a platform for creative minds involved in the fields of dance, film, fashion and advertisement. The festival is focussed on films that not only record dance but create independent filmchoreographies through the intense interplay between danceand cinematic tools like camera and editing. Out of more than 750 international film submissions the curatorial team of POOL 20 created three evening programs of dance shorts. On September 12th the PEARLS 20 – the equal winner films of the festival – will be awarded. Furthermore the two berlin based arstists Natasha Vergilio and Daniele Caetano will receive an artist prize for their ongoing and inspiring work in the field of dance and film. Besides the contemporary films the festival shows as part ofthe special serie POOL Shine – New York Traces two films ofthe artist Meredith Monk at Zionskirche. Influenced by theemergence of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s the film Book ofDays (1988) is dealing with the topic of a rapidly spreadingdesease and is pointing to assocaited racial and religiousconflicts – thus it seems more relevant than ever.
