Berlin Film Society presents...
ROAD TRIPPING: THE SURREAL HIGHWAY IN CINEMA
in partnership with Factory Berlin and i-D magazine
This autumn, our film programme is dedicated to the surreal highway in cinema, featuring legendary films from some of our favourite cult filmmakers, from David Lynch to Alejandro Jodorowsky.
Film #5: HOLY MOTORS, directed by LEOS CARAX
"Holy Motors, fuelled by pure feeling, is a dream of a movie you want to get lost in. It's a thing of beauty." – Rolling Stone
ABOUT THE FILM
Visually stunning and unapologetically challenging, the dreamlike story of Holy Motors depicts 24 hours in the life of Monsieur Oscar (Denis Lavant) who shuffles between different identities, inhabiting the roles a murderer, beggar, company chairman, monstrous creature, worker, and family man.
Reassuring his mature visual style, the French cinema's enfant terrible Leos Carax, known for films such as Boy Meets Girl (1984), Mauvais Sang (1986), and Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (1991), offers a lunatic and deeply unsettling ride which is destined to become a classic.
