Von den legendären Liverbirds – den „weiblichen Beatles“ –, deren Original-Bassistin und -Schlagzeugerin zurück auf die Bühne kommen, zur kenianischen Benga-Musik mit Einflüssen von afrokubanischem Rumba und kongolesischer Fingerstyle-Gitarre. Für das Projekt Mashup the Archive reiste der Musikproduzent und DJ Raph von Nairobi nach Bayreuth ans Iwalewahaus. Gesänge und Rhythmen aus der dortigen Sammlung panafrikanischer Fieldrecordings sampelte er für sein Debüt Sacred Groves (2018). Auch live stehen diese im Zentrum der Tracks – unterstützt von schwer groovenden Beats und Bässen. Das vollständige Programm: www.hkw.de/findthefile ++++English version++++ In four contributions, Berlin musicians leap into digital collections, band archives, documented and passed down works—ranging from download collages of technoid grooves, classical vocals, and abstract pop, to quotes from 5,000 works of Turkish art and folk music that meet synthesizer and bağlama. From the legendary Liverbirds—the “female Beatles”—whose original bassist and drummer return to the stage, to Kenyan Benga music with its influences from Afro-Cuban rumba and Congolese fingerstyle guitar. For the project Mashup the Archive, music producer and DJ Raph journeyed from Nairobi to Bayreuth’s Iwalewahaus, to sample vocals and rhythms from its collection of Pan-African field recordings, for his debut Sacred Groves (2018).
