Benni is a delicate-looking girl with unbridled energy. She is also a ‘system crasher,’ the term used to describe children who reject structures. No matter where this nine-year old is taken in, she is booted out again shortly afterwards. And that is exactly what she seeks, because all Benni desires is to be able to live with her mother – a woman unable to cope with her daughter’s unpredictable behaviour. Based on her multi-award-winning script, Talents alumna Nora Fingscheidt has created an intense drama about one child’s overwhelming need for love and the potential for violence this engenders. Nora Fingscheidt, Germany, 2019, 118 min + Q & A. “Systemsprenger” (“System Crasher”) is selected for the Competition of the 69th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival. Screenings of select alumni films are part of the Summit programme of Berlinale Talents 2019 at the three venues of the HAU Hebbel am Ufer theatre, taking place from February 9 to Februay 14.
