New Cinema and Contemporary Art
2016, Mar 15, Tue – 2016, Mar 20, Sun
The lines between documentary and fictional approaches in film and art are increasingly blurred. Our contemporary visual culture is at the intersection between the aesthetic, social and political issues of the age and is confronting the progressive evolution of modes of production and distribution. With a selection of more than 100 previously unreleased international films from 40 countries, most of them never seen before in Germany, Rencontres Internationales opens a critical and future-oriented look at such practices.
Works by world-renowned artists and filmmakers will be seen as well as those by young talents whose works are being shown for the first time in Berlin. In addition to the screenings, workshops, panel discussions and talks with international artists, filmmakers and experts invite guests to discover and to reflect new documentary, fictional and multimedia approaches.
The latest edition is being presented at Gaîté Lyrique in Paris between January 12 and 17, 2016 before stopping off at HKW for the ninth time in March.
One special highlight is the German premiere of Vapour, the new film by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Some of the other artists whose works will be presented are: Adel Abidin, Thom Andersen, Jasmina Cibic, Pedro Costa, La Ribot and Lina Selander.
